Current Project

The Tree House Project focuses on childhood plans for tree houses and other forts envisioned as both personal spaces and realms of the imagination.

I ask visitors of all ages to recall childhood ambitions of tree houses or other forts that never came to fruition. Often elaborate or capricious, children commonly devise plans for their own spaces that cannot be built due to limitations in reality, such as time, cost, and the increasingly commonly lack of space.

Through discussion and collaborative sketching, we recapture ideas that they once had for such spaces. From these sketches I will create carefully rendered blueprints/architectural drawings and scale models of each playhouse, as a tangible representation of their childhood ambitions and pursuit of autonomy.

The realized models and video and photo documentation of the process will be displayed at The Varley in Fall 2015- please stay tuned.
